Upcoming STEM children’s book highlighted in local paper
Ouva Hugs a Star, a STEM children’s book, is highlighted in the Andover Townsman, an Andover, Massachusetts newspaper, where Author & Illustrator, Mike Puglielli, lives with his family.
In the article, Andover father hopes to inspire girls with new book, written by Madeline Hughes of the Andover Townsman, Maddie highlights the moments that led to writing and illustrating Ouva Hugs a Star and the journey of what is left for publishing the STEM children’s book.
Mike Puglielli recalls from his 10 years of working in the tech industry, the challenges girls & women face in aspiring to STEM focused careers. He shares, “How ingrained is some of that thinking [of stereotypical women’s roles]? I see it in the tech world and to see it as a dad, I want to contribute in a new meaningful way.”
Ouva Hugs a Star is the first, in what Mike Puglielli hopes, in a series of STEM children’s books that focus, and highlight, STEM careers in fictional stories that inspire young girl readers. In an industry ripe with STEM books that feature nonfictional stories and characters, Mike Puglielli aims to buck that trend with stories that are more akin to children’s book classics.
